Mr Bali holds a substantive gynaecology oncology consultant post at the Royal Derby Hospital and a research post in oncology at the University of Derby. His obstetric and gynaecology training has been based in Edinburgh and Cambridge and it was mainly in Cambridge that his interest in cancer care grew.
Mr Bali was fortunate to undertake full time research in 1999 for two years at the Garvan Institute in Sydney, Australia, looking at various aspects of cell cycle regulation in the development and progression of ovarian cancer. Having returned to the UK in 2002, he secured a clinical gynaecology oncology fellowship at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and The Royal Marsden Hospital in London. He has enjoyed his training immensely over the years, which has contributed to his development as a consultant.
Since Mr Bali’s appointment in 2005, he has helped shaped the delivery of gynaecology cancer services both locally and regionally. He has also been involved in the development of the advanced laparoscopy service and currently represents gynaecology at the clinical improvements groups/clinical commissioning to foster closer integration between primary and secondary care provided for patients.
His management experience has seen him hold local positions of Associate Clinical Director for the department to Clinical Director for obstertrics and gynaecology to his current position of Divisional Medical Director for Women’s and Children’s / GUM for UHDB. Regionally he has held the position of Chair of the East Midlands gynaecology Cancer Network.
