Born in Derby and was a professional footballer with Derby County 1989-91. Graduated from Leicester medical School in 1996 and did higher surgical training through the East Midlands. Following a sports knee fellowship in New Zealand and Derby he was appointed as a Knee Surgeon at the Royal Derby Hospital in 2007.
Currently specialises in both Sports knee injuries and Knee Arthroplasty and in particular partial knee replacements carrying out well over 100 unicompartmental knee replacements per year. Mr Straw runs an acute knee injuries clinic with same day MRI at the Royal Derby and is involved in training future consultants as part of the Derby Knee fellowship.
All aspects of knee surgery, ligament reconstruction such as ACL surgery, arthroscopy, cartilage repair, patient specific osteotomies about the knee, partial and total knee replacements and revision knee replacements
