Mr Bateman is a kind and compassionate double fellowship trained spinal surgeon with experience of managing degenerative, traumatic and metastatic disease of the whole spine from occiput to sacrum.
Mr Bateman completed a complex spine surgery fellowship offered through the University of Toronto and was appointed a substantive Consultant at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust in 2017. His clinical practice includes the management of degenerative, traumatic and metastatic spinal disease.
Mr Bateman has a Diploma in Sports and Exercise medicine and has provided medical support for various events including the Olympics in 2012 and various national and international rowing and motorsport events.
Mr Bateman is a member of several professional societies and is currently the Professional Practice representative for the British Association of Spine Surgeons. He was previously an executive committee member for the Society for Back Pain Research and remains an active member. He is a recognised surgical trainer and directs and teaches on several professional courses. Mr Bateman is actively involved in clinical research.
