Mark Johnston qualified as a doctor at the University of Birmingham in 1990. Having not only attained his MBChB, but also a first class honour BSc in pathological Sciences. He remained in Birmingham until starting his higher surgical training in ENT within the East Midlands Region. During this 6 year period he was based at Queens Medical Centre, Leicester Royal Infirmary and Derby Royal Infirmary.
Mark was appointed as a Consultant ENT Head & Neck Surgeon at the Royal Derby Hospital in 2003. His current practice focuses on the diseases of the ear and nose and has specialist and general ENT clinics for both adult and children. He has peripheral clinics at both Ilkeston and Heanor Hospitals.
He was regional training programme director in the east midlands for ENT higher surgical trainees for 6 years until the end of 2018.
He is clinical lead for ENT surgical specials teaching the medical students through the University of Nottingham where he is an Honorary Assistant Professor.
He is a member of The British Association of Otolaryngologists, Head and Neck Surgeons (ENT-UK), The British Rhinological Society and the Midlands institute of Otolaryngology.
