He also has qualifications allowing him to prescribe medication and perform steroid injections.
Marcus has worked as a specialist in the Derby Shoulder Unit since 2007 and only treats patients with upper limb conditions, most commonly affecting the shoulder. He has a particular interest in shoulder instability and developed the Derby Shoulder Instability Rehabilitation Programme specifically to help patients whose shoulders dislocate. This is now widely used in the UK and overseas.
He has a keen research interest and published more than a dozen journal papers plus one book chapter. He is currently involved with two large national trials: UKFroST investigating the best treatment for frozen shoulder, and GRASP investigating the best conservative treatment for rotator cuff related pain. Marcus also teaches on training courses and conferences for physiotherapists and doctors both nationally and internationally.
