Laura qualified in 2007 from the University of Derby with BscHons in Occupational Therapy. She has experience working in a wide variety of clinical areas and choose to specialise in Hand Therapy in 2012 working within the Pulvertaft Hand Therapy Unit at Derby as a senior Occupational Therapist.
Laura has developed a specialist interest in the psychological impact of hand injury and the management of scars. In 2015, she became a member of The British Association of Skin Camouflage and gained a graduate diploma in the principles and skills of para-medical skin camouflage techniques.
Laura has a keen interest in the education and provision of clinical placements for Occupational Therapy and physiotherapy students and has recently facilitated a pilot for the 4:1 supervision model within Hand Therapy; this was a collaborative pilot with Derby Hospitals and the University of Derby.
Laura is also a member of The British Association of Hand Therapy (BAHT) regularly present on BAHT Level 1 courses run by the Pulvertaft Hand Unit and more recently presented a poster on the provision of Skin Camouflage with Hand Therapy at the BAHT conference. Laura is currently in the process of completing research into the impact of the appearance of scarring on function and daily activities and the use of Skin Camouflage.
